New funding programme for sundials in public spaces
The Sundials Expert Group of the German Chronometry Society (DGC) promotes the restoration of historic sundials as well as the construction of new ones. The only condition is that the sundials must be located on public buildings or in public parks in Germany.
Maximum funding amounts:
75% for costs up to €1,000
50% for costs up to €4,999
25% for costs from €5,000 onwards
Examples of projects eligible for funding include: a wall sundial at the town hall, a celestial globe in the park, a ground sundial in the school playground, and a precision sundial in front of a publicly accessible company building.

You can submit your application during the planning phase, but you should have an initial cost estimate and a description of the sundial ready. The best way to submit your application is by email to su-foerderung@dg-chrono.de.

Your application will be reviewed promptly by a panel of experts from the Sundial Expert Group. Once your project has been approved and completed, please submit your invoice and informative photos of the sundial so that they can be reviewed and your grant can be paid out.

Funded projects
Since 2021, we have been able to realise several projects with the help of funding. Here are a few examples:
Sundial tower in Waldbrunn
This stainless steel tower with four vertical glass sundials is a much-admired and educational object in front of the Waldbrunn holiday village in Waldbrunn (Odenwald). It was erected by us in March 2021 and sponsored by the DGC's Sundial Expert Group.
Wall sundial in Oberkirchen
The SCALA dibond sundial adorns the former electricity substation in Oberkirchen (Saarland). Clearly visible on the main road, the sundial was designed in the colours of the town's coat of arms. It was erected by us in July 2021 and sponsored by the DGC's Sundial Expert Group.
Analemmatic sundial in Groß-Umstadt
In September 2021, we installed a stainless steel analemmatic sundial at the Pestalozzi daycare centre in Groß-Umstadt and tried it out right away in beautiful sunshine. The boy in the picture shows the time with his shadow. Sponsored by the DGC Sundial Expert Group.
Interactive celestial globe in Bad Oeynhausen
Since 2023, an interactive celestial globe has been on display in a public park in front of the DENIOS company. This educational object is both a sundial and a sun path simulator. Sponsored by the Sundial Expert Group of the DGC.
